Highly accurate optical form measurement of curved surfaces, such as aspherical mirror surfaces, is an important but still unsolved challenge. The spectrum of surfaces which are of interest for industry and research ranges from small specimens like contact lenses or camera lenses up to photolithography lens surfaces or synchrotron mirrors.
New concepts of optical measurement technique have been developed at PTB, including multi-sensor methods which use redundant information and innovative mathematical concepts. For flat and slightly non-flat optical surfaces, these concepts can significantly improve the measurement accuracy.
The aim of this PhD project is to investigate, develop and test similar methods for strongly curved aspheric surfaces. Highly accurate positioning and metrology systems, including interferometers and a laser tracer, are available for this project. Concepts for new methods will be evaluated and assessed by a mathematics-based simulation environment.
At PTB, the project is operated under cooperation of the two working groups Form and Wavefront Metrology and Data Analysis and Measurement Uncertainty.
Please note that application is only possible online. The application period will start on 15 February 2011, deadline is 31 March 2011.
