Eligibility:
The Trust will consider candidates who:
1. are residents of South Africa (age is not a factor in selection)
2.are well established in their field
3. are leading scholars who have undertaken advanced research for many years (the Award is not for the purposes of studying towards a higher degree)
4. are outstanding achievers with a track record of sustained intellectual effort at the highest level
5. present submissions that describe a clearly focused and specific project
6.demonstrate a capacity and commitment to the transfer of skills and knowledge to fellow South Africans

Scholarship Description: The Award seeks to attract candidates of exceptional ability and “big ideas” in any discipline It is intended to enable scholars based in South Africa to undertake a programme of work for a period of up to one year, by making possible full-time concentration on the work, contact with outstanding peers (locally or in foreign countries) and adequate logistic resources Further, it aims to strengthen relationships and partnerships between local institutions, foreign institutions and the Trust and build research excellence while stimulating scholarship in academic life.

-A degree in chemical engineering. – Mechanical aptitude. – Ideally have an interest in or experience of some of the following areas: process simulation and modelling process design software packages (Aspen, Mat LAB). -Ability to work independently and also as a team in a project-driven environment. -Be self-motivated and enthusiastic for the work undertaken. -Problem-solving skills and solution-seeking orientated. -Be computer literate and have knowledge of statistical techniques to analyse data. -Good communication and writing skills.

Scholarship Description: One objective of the project addresses energy and environmental concerns related to kraft pulping industry operations. Improvement in the kraft pulping delignification rate can result in significant savings in pulping time, chemicals and energy used. Reduction in pulping time contributes to an increase in the digester throughput and savings in pulping energy which provide economic benefits. Reduction in energy consumption during pulping implies that less coal or furnace oil will be fired in the power boiler resulting in lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Graca Machel Postgraduate Scholarships for Women, South Africa

Scholarship Description: Canon Collins Trust manages a scholarship programme on behalf of Mrs Graça Machel. The aim is to provide women from across southern Africa with scholarships that will equip them to take up leadership roles for the benefit of their community.
The Collins Trust announced scholarship for women to postgraduate study in South Africa in 2012.They will provide funding for up to a maximum of one year for Honours, two years for Masters and three years for PhD. Continued funding depends on satisfactory progress and academic reports.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees, medical insurance for non-South African scholars, a stipend towards living costs, a travel allowance and a study resource allowance, payable in the first year of study only.
Eligibility Criteria- Applicants must:
-Be a woman
-Be nationals of or have refugee status in one of the following countries:

UCT International & Refugee Students Scholarships – 2012, South Africa

Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for the International and Refugee Students’ Scholarships from full time Honours, Masters and Doctoral Students.A limited number of scholarships are available to graduates who are not South African. These are awarded on a competitive basis and preference is given to senior candidates.
All UCT International and Refugee Students’ Scholarships are supplementary. Students who apply must have the means to fund their studies.
The scholarships are renewable for the duration of the course of study, if satisfactory progress is maintained, for one year at honours level, two at master’s level and three at doctoral level.
Applicants must apply for full-time admission through the UCT Admissions Office or the Faculty Office. Late applications are not accepted.
