2011 Huawei Maitree Scholarship for Applicants of India, China

Scholarship Description:In its endeavor to foster the spirit of innovation and scholarship in every discipline, Huawei has instituted “Huawei Maitree Scholarship” to aid Indian undergraduate and graduate students who wish to pursue higher studies in China. This initiative aims at bringing about a better understanding, appreciation and friendship between the youth of India and China.

Under this scholarship programme, 10 scholarships will be provided every year to select Indian students for undergraduate and post graduate studies in China. The scholarship would, Huawei believes, help the students dedicate themselves to the pursuit of excellence.The duration of scholarship will be upto the entire period of study, renewable every year. The recipient will have to satisfy the criteria for promotion/ continuation of scholarship as determined by the respective university/institute to continue availing the scholarship.Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of Huawei Scholarship tenable from August, 2011 for graduate and post graduate studies in credible and reputed institutions in China preferably in the emerging areas of science and technology, culture and social studies and development related programmes.

2011-2012 Grants for Collaborative Research on Environment and Health in China

The collaborative grants program to stimulate new research on environment and health in China.

Scholarship Description:The collaborative grants program is to stimulate new research on environment and health in China that is directly linked to policy and practice, to encourage collaboration across disciplines, and to help develop a network of scholars working in this field.
Each year 7-8 grants of $10-15,000 are given to Chinese institutes for projects that: 

  • integrate environment or health perspectives into research currently focused on a single domain by sharing existing data or conducting limited additional data collection

  • develop a new focus on environment and health within the context of ongoing research on development

  • broaden the scope of analysis through collaboration with partners who bring additional disciplinary perspectives or international experience; or

  • work with NGO or government partners to make existing research more accessible and useful.

    2011 Hong Kong Research Grant by Royal Geographical Society in China

    Scholarship Description:The Society offers a single annual £2,500 research grant to a postgraduate student of any nationality who intends to undertake geographical research in the Greater China region (People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Macau SAR and Hong Kong SAR).

    The grant, supported by the Hong Kong branch of The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), may be used to help with travel, equipment, data collection and subsistence in the field. In 2010 the RGS-IBG will be awarding our 10th Hong Kong Research Grant.

    Research Scholarships for Chinese Students, University of Ghent, Belgium

    Special Research Fund – Cofunding for Chinese candidates holding a CSC-grant:With support from its “Special Research Fund” (BOF), Ghent University is able to provide cofunding for Chinese PhD students holding a PhD-grant from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC)

    Scholarship Description: The candidates must possess the Chinese nationality and must apply for a CSC-grant in 2011 or be a PhD-student at Ghent University with a CSC-grant.

    Not every research domain is covered by the CSC. list of CSC Favorably-Sponsored Areas & Majors
    Candidates can look for a Ghent University promoter in their domain of interest by browsing the list of faculties. There is also a research proposals suggested by some Ghent University professors. If you are interested in any of these proposals, please contact the supervisor mentioned in the proposal

    Candidates can apply maximum two times for a CSC- cofunding scholarship.
    Chinese candidates who are not illegible for a CSC-grant or are not awarded a CSC-grant but who want to do a PhD at Ghent University, can apply for a doctoral grant for candidates from developing countries, issued by Ghent University.

    How does it work?
    The candidate applies to Ghent University jointly with a promoter of Ghent University.The Research Council makes a selection of the applications based in part on the recommendations obtained from members of the Council for Development Cooperation. The recommendation is based on the evaluation of the doctoral project, the qualifications of the applicant and the scientific/scholarly potential of the promoter’s research group(s).

    How much funding is involved?
    The cofunding consists of financing for living and accommodation (about €5.400/year), insurance (about €500) and a bench fee (€3.720/year)
