Fellowship for Postdoctoral Students in Computational Fungal Genomics at Massey University, New Zealand

Scholarship Description: We are looking for a motivated and productive postdoctoral fellow to explore fungal genome evolution, including lateral gene transfer, using comparative genome data and novel computational analysis. The successful candidate will have scope to drive his/her own research program within the bounds of the group’s larger research agenda, but will also engage with ongoing collaborative research projects. This computational position requires solid quantitative skills in next generation sequencing and bioinformatics, preferably including some (basic) background in scripting or programming. Training in fungal biology and genetics can be provided as needed, and candidates from non-standard research backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

-Proven research experience, including some evidence of a publication record
-Strong quantitative skills, including some background in (basic) scripting
Preferred Qualifications:
-Candidates with a background in applied mathematics/physics/computer science are especially encouraged to apply
-Candidates will ideally be conversant in at least one programming language
-Additional bioinformatic, computational and/or statistical experience would be an advantage

2. Up to five scholarships shall be awarded annually to international fee paying students who are attending a New Zealand secondary school in the year of application and who will undertake a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Canterbury.

2011-2012 Massey University Vice Chancellor’s High Achievers Scholarship, New Zealand

Scholarship for new students at Massey University with high achievement in Academic and Arts at Massey University, New Zealand

Scholarship can be taken at: New Zealand
Eligibility: All applicants must be eligible, and intending, to enrol:
-for either full-time (minimum of 105 credits) or part-time (minimum of 45 credits) study;
-in the first year (i.e. 100 level) of a Bachelor degree programme;
-in the year following the award of the Scholarship;
-at any Massey University campus.
All applicants need to meet the entry criteria for the programme that they intend to enrol in at Massey University.
2. Applicants for the Massey University Vice Chancellor’s High Achievers Scholarship Academic Category only
School leaver applicants for the Academic category must have achieved a minimum of 20 NCEA Level 2 credits (or the equivalent in unit standards and/or credits) in each of four subjects from the approved list in order to be considered for this award. Credits would normally be expected to reflect a level of excellence across a range of subjects recognized by an endorsement of Excellence, and or excellence within the subject areas of proposed study.
Non school leaver applicants in this category must be able to demonstrate equivalent competence across a minimum of four subject areas.
3. Applicants for the Massey University Vice Chancellor’s High Achievers Scholarship (Arts) categories:
School leaver applicants in the Arts category must have attained an NCEA Level 2 certificate at Year 12 and in the opinion of the school, must be clearly capable of achieving University Entrance.
Non school leaver applicants in the Arts category must be able to document academic achievements that are comparable with those required of school leaver applicants at University Entrance or similar.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No
Scholarship Description: Up to 150 full-time and part-time Scholarships may be awarded annually. The value of the Scholarship shall be $3000 for full-time students, or pro-rated for part-time students, for one year. Applicants who apply for and are successful in more than one category will receive recognition of that but will only receive remuneration (to the maximum of $3,000 or pro-rated for part-time) for one category. The Scholarship will be paid in two instalments upon confirmation of enrolment in semesters one and two following the official withdrawal dates for these semesters.

Claude McCarthy Fellowships at Massey University, New Zealand

Fellowship to graduates for original work or research in literature, science or medicine.

Scholarship Description: The fellowships is announced to enable graduates of “any one or more of the Universities of New Zealand” to undertake “original work or research in literature, science or medicine”.
A fellowship may be granted for any one of the following purposes:
Category A: To enable graduates of a New Zealand university, who are registered and enrolled for a doctoral degree at a New Zealand university, to travel overseas for short periods to:
a) present research work at conferences, and/or
b) conduct research leading towards the New Zealand doctoral degree for which they are enrolled.
Fellows must retain their New Zealand doctoral registration during the tenure of their award.
Category B: To enable graduates of a New Zealand university whose normal occupation does not allow them to follow up original ideas and undertake research, to carry out research in a New Zealand university.
In categories C and D the applicant must be on leave with full pay. Save in exceptional circumstances, awards will not normally be made more than once every ten years to the same Fellow.

Scholarship Description:The Scholarship was established to commemorate Miss Dulcie Bowman who died in February 1996. In spite of suffering from a significant hearing disability Dulcie Bowman graduated from The University of Auckland and thereafter pursued a career in teaching. The Scholarship was established in 1996 by Dulcie Bowman’s sister, Miss Alva Bowman, who gifted a capital sum to fund the Award.To encourage hearing impaired women students at either undergraduate or postgraduate levels enrolled in an approved program-me of study at Auckland University.
The Scholarship shall be awarded to a woman student at The University of Auckland who is enrolled part-time or full-time and who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, in the second or subsequent year of an approved course of study and who has a hearing disability (the nature of which and the degree of hearing loss needs to be confirmed in writing by a medical practitioner)
The basis of selection shall be academic merit assessed on the first year of university study.
The Scholarship shall be awarded by the Council upon the recommendation of a selection committee comprising the Vice-Chancellor (or nominee), a Dean of one of the University’s Faculties, and the Disabilities coordinator.

Victoria PhD Submission Scholarship is to support doctoral students in the final three months of their research.
