Scholarship Description:Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in a wide range of disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, law, and natural and applied sciences. Assist with thesis advising, graduate seminars and conferences. Conduct research in area of specialization. Universities in Senegal offer many research opportunities. Fulbrighters may also consult the National Archives of Senegal. Course load and advising schedules vary widely by department. Grantees may likely teach two classes, advise graduate students and devote 40 percent of their time to research.English is sufficient for teaching in American literature; conversational French is helpful. Fluent French is required for teaching in all other disciplines.
Scholars with a Ph.D and at least three years of postdoctoral university or college teaching experience are preferred; professionals with these qualifications will be considered. Correspond with the host institution to determine whether specializations are of interest. A letter of invitation from the host institution, submitted as part of the application, is recommended, but not required. The academic calendar year is from October through the end of July. English language schools, the International School of Dakar and the Dakar Academy, are available for children in grades K-12 who accompany scholar. These schools start in August.
