PhD Studentship in Neural Plasticity in Parkinson’s Disease, Radboud University, Netherlands

2011-Doctorate Studentship in Neural Plasticity in Parkinson’s Disease at Radboud University in Netherland
Study Subject:Neural Plasticity in Parkinson’s Disease
Employer: Radboud University
Level:PhD
Scholarship Description:As a member of the research team, you will be trained to develop yourself as an independent researcher, with the ultimate goal to obtain a PhD. The overall aim of the present project is to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying neural plasticity in a rodent model of Parkinson’s disease, and clarify how brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) drives adaptive neuroplasticity after destruction of dopaminergic neurons. Both intrinsic and exercise-enhanced neuroplastic processes will be comprehensively assessed by molecular analyses (genome-wide mRNA and protein expression patterns) and neurochemical measures (including neurotransmitter function).

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Molecular Animal Physiology (RUN) and the Department of Neurology (RUNMC). The specific challenge for the Department of Molecular Animal Physiology is to map the brain from genotype to molecular pathways in neurodevelopmental trajectories to neuronal circuitry phenotypes and beyond (i.e. to behaviour and cognition).
