PhD Studentship in Signaling Dynamics in Single Cells at MDC in Germany
Max Delbrück Centrum für Molekulare Medizin (MDC) offers Doctorate Studentship in the field of Signaling Dynamics in Single Cells in Germany -2011 Study Subject(s):Signaling Dynamics in Single Cells Course Level:PhD Scholarship Provider: Max Delbrück Centrum für Molekulare Medizin (MDC) Scholarship can be taken at: Germany
Eligibility:
The candidate should have a strong interest in using systems biology methods to answer fundamental questions in cell biology. We encourage both candidates with degrees in life sciences and scientist from other disciplines with an interest in biology to apply. We would appreciate a candidate, who is highly motivated and able to work in a team. Excellent communication skills and good knowledge of the English language are required. Ph.D. students will be accompanied by a Ph.D. committee and have the opportunity to participate in lectures, courses and retreats offered by the various graduate schools at the BIMSB/MDC.
Scholarship Open for International Students: No
Scholarship Description: The research in our lab is focused on understanding the dynamics of signaling networks in individual living cells. We use automated time-lapse microscopy of cells expressing fluorescent reporters to measure signaling processes with high temporal resolution. The resulting quantitative data is combined with mathematical modeling to gain a predictive understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms. We use the p53 and TGF? networks as paradigms to investigate how the architecture of signaling networks shape their dynamic response and how distinct signaling pathways interact to determine cellular decisions. As part of a young team of international scientists, the successful applicant will work in an exciting, stimulating and interactive environment in a modern research institute with cutting edge infrastructure and core facilities.
